Biblioteka: Bookraiser
Institute of Contemporary Arts

‘We are always asking ourselves what a library could be, and the answers we find are continually influenced and inspired by the creative forces of our local community.’

Explore the relationship between the sonic, the printed and sharing this within a community space.

Biblioteka hosts an evening of DJ sets amongst a showcase of selected material from their special library collection of rare books and zines. The night includes DJ sets from Ewa Awe, Alien Body, Mikkola and Glibv.

The entry ticket to the event is a book or publication to help Biblioteka grow their collection. Your donation will become part of Biblioteka’s permanent library collection for others to enjoy. It may be a book you made or a book you like. The book can be any size, shape and colour. It can contain only images, only words, or anything in between. You can also a buy a book from the ICA Bookstore to donate to Biblioteka in case you don't have any book that you would like to give away.

Biblioteka is committed to finding endless sources of joy in exploring the relationship between sound and printed material.
Biblioteka is a public reference library with a variety of rare and special collections of books, zines and other printed materials within the fields of art, architecture and design. Originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, the library has been based in South London in Peckham since 2020. Beyond its everyday function as a reference library, Biblioteka is a research platform, whose goal is to work towards a model for a new public library.

While rooted in the history and tradition of thinking architecturally and philosophically about the public library, Biblioteka looks to new discourses that break with tradition and experiments with new forms of knowledge production, curation and vital archiving. Biblioteka is committed to finding endless sources of joy in exploring the relationship between the sonic and books.
