After a seven-year hiatus, this evening celebrates the return of A Nice Magazine by photographer Hanna Moon. Join us for a talk with Hanna Moon and creative director Gem Fletcher as they discuss the female gaze, self-portraiture and humour as methods of expression and vulnerability. Moon takes inspiration from artist Dorethea Tanning and early surrealist artists, bringing together photographers who use the camera as a tool for self-expression.

Women artists. There is no such thing - or person. It's just as much a contradiction in terms as 'man artist' or 'elephant artist'. Dorothea Tanning
Hanna Moon is an artist, photographer and creative interlocutor, born in South Korea, and based in London. Her first critically-acclaimed contribution to fashion culture was the launch of A Nice Magazine, created for her graduation from Central Saint Martins, London, in 2014. Intentionally working with ideas and subjects outside of the conventions of fashion photography, Moon has defined herself as an important voice in the field.

Gem Fletcher is a hybrid creative exploring the intersection of art, photography and fashion. She also hosts the messy truth podcast, a series of candid conversations that unpack the future of visual culture. Gem's writing about art, photography and culture has been published by 1000 Words, AnOther Magazine, Aperture, British Journal of Photography, Creative Review, Dazed, Foam, It’s Nice That & The Guardian. She also collaborates with artists and publishers on photobook texts. Gem has led brand direction and narrative projects for MØRNING, WeTransfer, Accept & Proceed and Moleskine. She was previously photo director at Riposte Magazine.
