JOAN Publishing Book Launch: Sam Cottington, Paul Becker & Jenna Collins
Institute of Contemporary Arts

Join us for readings from Sam Cottington, Jenna Collins, and Paul Becker (with Jess Wiesner as ‘Kate Bush’ and Andrew Kerton as ‘Andrew Powell’) to celebrate the launches of People Person, One, 2, 3, and How We Made ‘The Kick Inside’, published in July 2022 by JOAN Publishing.

‘Sam Cottington’s prose is keen and conspiratorial, “the metropolitan equivalent of curtain twitching”, and his cast of characters elbow each other under it like flies banging on glass.’

‘… the most alive and profound, intensely specific and supernaturally communicative sequence of insights into the process of making art I have ever read. And then. I don’t actually have the words to describe what comes next. My mouth fell open. My mind fell open. I think you’ll just have to read it.’

One, 2, 3 is a splendid feast made from the broken bits at the bottom of the bag. Bitingly funny, with a peculiar slippy charm that lodges its subversive truths about making art deep in the bones.’
Co-edited by London-based artists Rachel Cattle and John Hughes, JOAN is a new independent publisher of contemporary interdisciplinary writing, supporting feminist, queer, and idiosyncratic voices, and innovative fictions.
