Look Over
Drawing on her interest in the politics of space that has characterised Anne Tallentire’s practice for over three decades, Look Over will slowly evolve across four hours in the Theatre. Reflecting upon various conditions and restraints that impact daily life, an immersive engagement with dispersed and fragmented elements of the work as it takes place will be encouraged. Tallentire will be assisted by Clare Daly and George Bularca.
Miss-Communication
Following Tallentire’s performance, Joanna Walsh will read from her book Miss-Communication (JOAN 2022), in conversation with Caroline Campbell's Loiterbot. Miss-Communication is a book of two halves. On each recto page, an AI text generated from the prison letters of Irish rebel politician and British aristocrat, Constance Markievicz, and interviews with 20th century Dublin women collected by Máirín Johnston in her 1988 book Dublin Belles. On each verso page, a choose-your-own-critical-theory adventure investigating language, autonomy, creativity, and gender identity. Joanna Walsh has both programmed the AI and written the essay, but is she the author of either ‘work’?

Anne Tallentire (b. County Armagh, Northern Ireland) lives and works in London, UK. Her practice encompasses moving image, sculpture, installation, performance, and photography. Through visual and textual interrogation of everyday materials and structures, Tallentire’s work seeks to reveal systems that shape the built environment and the economics of labour. Her recent work has examined geographical dislocation and demarcation in relation to infrastructure. From 1993, Tallentire has also made work as part of the artist duo work-seth/tallentire with artist John Seth. She is also the co-organiser, with Chris Fite-Wassilak, of the peripatetic event series ‘hmn’. In 2018 Tallentire was the recipient of a Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists. She is Professor Emerita at Central Saint Martins, where she taught from the early 1990s to 2014. She is represented by Hollybush Gardens, London.
Joanna Walsh is a multidisciplinary writer for print, digital and performance. The author of eleven books, she also works as a critic, editor and university teacher. She is a UK Arts Foundation fellow, and a Republic of Ireland Markievicz awardee.

Masks are encouraged unless exempt. The Lower Bar has step-free access and there is a platform lift (max. weight 300 kg) in the Theatre.
