Keyboard Fantasies + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Keyboard Fantasies, dir. Posy Dixon, UK 2019, 62 min., English

Created on an Atari home studio in rural Canada and originally self-released only on cassette, Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s 1986 album Keyboard Fantasies languished in obscurity for nearly 30 years. But after its rediscovery by a Japanese record collector in 2015, the cult classic found a worldwide audience – and led the musician, now Glenn Copeland, to embark on his first international tour at the age of 74.

Part biopic and part tour documentary, Posy Dixon’s debut feature follows Copeland’s emergence from years of isolation. Tracking five decades of relentless musical output amid shifting manifestations of gender and sexual identity, Keyboard Fantasies celebrates the unpredictable rhythms of life through the prism of this extraordinary musician.

The screening is followed by a Q&A with director Posy Dixon, hosted by culture writer Kate Hutchinson.

More screenings from Friday 12 November
