ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
Eleven years after it premiered at Venice, the new directors’ edit of Heaven Without Earth receives its world premiere at the ICA – followed by a Q&A with Giovanni Maderna, co-director alongside Sara Pozzoli, and Eugenio Maderna, who co-stars with his father in this evocative and powerfully personal film set in the Italian alps.
As a father (Giovanni Maderna) and his eight-year-old son (Eugenio Maderna) explore a mountain range together, each has questions – and each looks for answers from the other. As the two discuss nature and the city, origins and upbringings, family and love, their unbroken days and nights together in the open air lead to extraordinary intimacy and honesty between the pair.
