Late on a rainy night with just her young daughter for company, sociology lecturer Cecilia (Elisa Carricajo) hears a knock at the door. Realising that her visitor is Kevin (Eliot Otazo), the adolescent son of her housekeeper, she is too afraid to open up and let him in. When, the next day, his body is found in a river and the police are accused of having hounded the teenager, social unrest rocks this impoverished part of town – and Cecilia’s grip on reality begins to ebb away.
Highlighted by a standout central performance from Carricajo (La Flor), Francisco Márquez’s fiction debut skilfully articulates the injustices and inequalities of Argentine society: between employees and employers, between the middle classes and the working classes, between the comfortably rich and the uncomfortably poor.
